PROGRAMS : Roundtable Discussions

The Turtle Lodge hosts Roundtable Discussions, which serve as part of the sharing of project outcomes of our programs, as well as discussion forums for planning and developing future programs and partnerships.

We are currently accepting registration for the following Roundtable Discussions:

[a] A Traditional Wellness Approach to Healing: Collaboration with Other Nations
This forum will share the traditional First Nations understanding of wellness as practiced at The Turtle Lodge, with a focus on finding common ground and working together with other nations. This will lay the framework for future relationships and networking with other communities, as well as setting the stage for the replication of culturally distinct Turtle Lodge programs in other communities.

[b] A Traditional Wellness Approach to Healing: Collaboration with Western and Other Complementary Approaches to Medicine
This forum will share the traditional First Nations understanding of wellness as practiced at The Turtle Lodge, showcasing program experiences working as a team of Traditional Healers/Teachers and western health professionals. This Roundtable Discussion will focus on issues of collaboration between traditional healers and western health practitioners and health organizations, as well as other practitioners of complementary medicine. Members of health, allied health and complementary medicine professions, as well as governmental representatives who have First Nations health care mandates, will be included in the discussions.

[c] A Traditional Wellness Approach to Educating Youth: Collaboration with Community Educational Approaches
This forum will share the traditional First Nations approach to helping youth learn about themselves as practiced at The Turtle Lodge, showcasing program experiences working as a team of Traditional Healers/Teachers and western-trained educators, using a combination of resources. Members of the teaching professions and educational organizations will be included, as well as public health educational services. The focus will be on broadening the scope of the traditional approach by setting the stage for collaboration and partnerships with a variety of educational and community living organizations.

[d] A Traditional Wellness Approach to Self-Sufficiency: How Do We Achieve Self-Determination
This Roundtable will offer the forum for individuals and communities to share their understanding of self-sufficiency. It will provide the opportunity for participants to suggest ways and offer their own contributions to creating a self-sufficient Turtle Lodge concept based onuniversal spiritual values and traditional concepts of land-based survival, including barter and trade. The Roundtable will include worldwide representation from programs which have experience with creating self-sufficient environments, which are community-empowering and respectful of the Seven Teachings of Inspiration and Natural Teachings as practiced at The Turtle Lodge.
