The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, at their General
Assembly meeting of January 16, 2003 unanimously, endorsed the following
resolution regarding the Turtle Lodge (Anishnabe Mikinack Kinamakamik)
and associated programs:
>> The Chiefs-in-Assembly support Turtle
Lodge efforts to forge partnerships in support of a traditional learning
and healing centre, and
>> The Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs supports
the Turtle Lodge in pursuing federal and provincial partnerships for
the Turtle Lodge Centre for Learning and Healing.
The resolution recognized:
>> The Turtle Lodge is a centre for spiritual land-based traditional
learning and healing which has been initiated at Sagkeeng First Nation;
>> The Turtle Lodge programs will introduce youth to traditional
healing concepts and values based upon the First Nations seven sacred
teachings and eight paths of the medicine wheel concept;
>> The Turtle Lodge Elders Council is seeking partnerships and
funding support to develop further traditional healing and wellness
programs for youth and others; and
>> Many First Nations citizens are seeking knowledge of traditional
teachings, values and approaches to healing and wellness.
