| BUILDING THE TURTLE LODGE : Vision To Physical Reality | |

| In February 2002 a group
of people began bringing the vision of The Turtle Lodge into physical
reality. This vision was received by Nii Gaani Aki Inini (Dave Courchene
Jr.) more than 25 years ago.
A very special lodge has been constructed at Sagkeeng, Manitoba, Canada in the shape of a turtle. The Turtle Lodge is located near the sacred site of Manitou Api - 'Where the Creator Sat', which to many Fist Nations people is considered the centre, the heart of Turtle Island (North America). The Anishnabe Mikinack Kinamakamik (Turtle Lodge) is being built for our children - the centre of our lives. The Turtle Lodge is an environment where our children can receive the support and mentor-ship of spiritual people; a place where we can truly love them, nurture them and honour their distinctiveness. We rely on the wisdom of the Elders of all peoples to help guide our children to the truth. Building of the Turtle Lodge main
building is a visible symbol and testament to the strength, capacity,
resilience and survival of the First Nations peoples.
